an Interweb for Ben…

I (and some others) thought it might be a nice idea to have an email chain, group, web, network of Ben’s friends and family, of those who loved Ben and would like to, somehow, cradle and promote his continued existence, through a combination of the multitudinous versions of Ben that Kristian told us of in his tribute, and the similarly numerous relationships that each of us had with him, the two sides of our individual Bens directing our curiosity, motivation, interest and comment. (Maybe what I mean is a Ben-net bulletin board…I don’t know what I mean!…)

What I thought was that I could maintain a list of email addresses, to which those on the list would have secure access, so that any little thoughts, big thoughts, quotations, books to read, ideas, suggestions, arguments, fits, verses, stanzas, drawings, sayings, images, photos, videos, bits of music, OR WHATEVER could be circulated (using the bcc box to put the group of email addresses in – that’s supposed to keep it more secure,isn’t it?) and recipients could read/not read, answer/delete, ask to be taken off the list, ask for someone else to be included etc etc… Whether this would lead to spinoff artifacts being extracted from the discussion and promulgated through a Ben webiste, or not remains to be seen…

I thought, given my list of condolences (over 200 households long) that I would be able to compile an initial email list (nowhere near the 200: mostly those of Ben’s generation, along with a few oldies and some ‘youngsters’) but NO! The contact medium that I have had to use with most people has either been WhatsApp (wash my mouth out) i.e. your mobile number, or Facebook (more carbolic needed).

In order to get this message out, I am going to have to use those same media again…but, if you would like to join in with Ben net, which will be intially by email, I would love it if you could send me your email address: I feel this is a much more controllable (by us!) medium than using Meta/Google/Apple controlled media.

So, here’s to Ben, and his possible Interweb continuation…!!!
